On this day – 60 years ago, Elmwood Park officially incorporated as a Village. Removing themselves from the (Town) of Mt Pleasant, 120 homes became the last small suburban village in Wisconsin to do so. Quoting the historical write up by past-President Audrey Viau,
“The purpose of becoming a village was to provide a local government to solve local problems. It would allow us to have control over the protection and development of the area and to maintain a separate identity and control over our civic operations.”
While the Village originally had planned a large celebration for today to commemorate the occasion, it unfortunately was cancelled due to the ongoing Covid19 pandemic. In the meantime, the Village’s Events Committee is planning and preparing to celebrate come Summer of 2021. Be on the lookout for exciting news in the future!
From President Rossi, the Village Board, Administration and Staff, we hope you make the most out of this beautiful day. Let’s remember how fortunate we are to live, work and play in the Village of Elmwood Park!
