Once again, the Elmwood Park village people are planning a neighborhood rummage and garage sale. Those who participated last year reported results far exceeding their expectation.
Although I delivered flyers to every Elmwood Park home, several people mentioned they didn’t think they had enough time to prepare. I’m hoping by getting everyone the info now, we can entice even more folks to participate. It is being planned for June 13th and 14th from 8 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. School and graduation parties will hopefully be over.
10 GOOD REASONS TO JOIN IN:
- You can get rid of all the clothes that no longer fit because you’ve lost so much weight;
- Clothing that is so dated (Nehru jackets anyone?) you’re finally giving up on the style ever coming back;
- You can unload ugly gifts you’ve received over the years (assuming the gift giver doesn’t turn out to be a rummage sale customer);
- It’s a great opportunity to eliminate craft and hobby items that have been with you for so long you can’t remember why you bought the stuff;
- While it won’t turn you into a minimalist, a rummage sale provides a great opportunity to de-clutter;
- You can say goodby to toys you were saving for grandchildren who are now only interested in electronics;
- Take a long look at your collection of shoes. Personally, I have more pairs than Imelda Marcos, many of which pinch my toes. Same goes for jewelry. So many customers asked if I had any jewelry for sale;
- You won’t have to consider renting off-sight storage, or request permission to erect a pole barn in your back yard because you have so much stuff;
- You can make some money without leaving the confines of your home;
- You might even be able to park your car in the garage!
One valuable suggestion is that you put a few empty boxes somewhere in your house and garage. Every time you run across something you wonder why you kept, toss it in the box. When the sale date gets closer, it will be much less work to gather and price everything. And you’ll be getting a jump on spring cleaning.
We had lots of people interested in a bake sale held at one of the houses. If you know of any organization who would like to use this opportunity, by all means let me know so I can include it in the newspaper ad.
If you’re interested, please send me an e-mail at barb@burks.cc or call me at 598-9538. I’ll need your name, home and e-mail addresses. I’ll then keep you informed of progress.
I’ll deliver some flyers for each participant in advance of the sale in case they have a place to post them (work, church, grocery stores, etc.). I’ll again put together a list of addresses participating, and what particular items each has for sale. Eventually you’ll need to give me that info, but I’ll ask for it in a future e-mail. I’ll get a bunch of copies to everyone ahead of time, so everyone coming to your sale will know where to look for others.
